Teaching the Bible to Children of All Ages

(click below for a short Introduction video!)

Do you want to become a Sunday School teacher or share your love for the Bible with your own children but don’t know where to start?

Are you intimidated with the idea of teaching children your love for the Bible?

With this incredible course, you will have all the resources, techniques, strategies and knowledge to teach any age.

Imagine feeling confident about teaching the Bible to any age and being excited each Sunday to share your insights with kids.

That’s exactly why I created this unique course. It provides everything you need to teach any age how to love the Bible. By purchasing this course, you'll receive lifetime access to my extensive knowledge on teaching the Bible to various age groups. With over 40 years of experience as a teacher, Sunday School instructor, and college residence counselor, you’ll have all the tools you need to succeed and feel confident to teach any age.

Does this sound like you?

  •  “I have no experience teaching the little kids”

  •  “Little, young children scare me”

  •  ‘How on earth does a K teacher get any “teaching” out of a 5 year old?”

  •  “Teaching little tiny kids requires professional education background”

  •  “I tried a couple times, and all I did was end up babysitting”

  •  “I would love to help my grandchildren learn but definitely seems overwhelming, I’ll wait till they’re older”

  •  “Teaching little kids is exhausting. I can’t come up with enough ideas”

  •  “I end up wanting to teach my children something useful but then end up babysitting. It’s too frustrating.”

  •  My church keeps asking me if I’m interested in teaching Sunday School but honestly, I’m terrified!

  •  I was taught that Sunday School should be just be the Bible & S&H - why do we need anything else?

  • I can do elementary-school children because at least they don't have an "attitude" and listen but there is not way I'd do High Schoolers!

  • How can we instill a love of Christian Science today for our young folks when they're parents don't even care?

  • How can we teach young children importance of how to think? That's just too abstract for them!

  • I can teach girls because (typically) they listen and write down ideas and we can talk. Boys no way! I end up spending time discipling them

  • I feel "blocked" to think of other ways to engage children because the way I was taught was just listen to the teacher read out of the two books (The Bible and Science & Health!)

What will you learn?

  • In this course, you'll gain insight into the personal teaching strategies I’ve developed over 40+ years of teaching children, from age 3 to adults, through "The Mustard Seed Method."

    • For Nonreaders (PreK-K): You’ll discover my go-to activities for teaching Bible characters and stories, as well as foundational Christian Science concepts, like "Illusions," "Stand Porter," and "Genesis 1 & 2." These methods keep young children engaged and learning while introducing them to ideas about how to think spiritually.

    • For Grade-School Children: You'll learn how I use worksheets along with a Bible 101 knowledge to foster a genuine love for the Bible. These tools help students connect biblical teachings to Christian Science principles and apply them in their everyday lives.

    • For Discussions with Older Students: You’ll gain strategies for facilitating dynamic discussions that help older students understand how the Bible and Christian Science offer practical guidance for navigating today’s complex world.

What's included?

1 - The "Spiritual Foundation Toolbox"

  • Our first module centers on YOU as the "teacher," grounded in the principles of Christian Science. The toolbox is filled with ideas and strategies I've personally used to prepare mentally and spiritually for teaching Sunday School classes, workshops, and guiding my own children. Resources include prayers and metaphysical ideas on how to pray for children in general.

  • You'll receive some of my most cherished talks, including "Under the Shadow of the Almighty: Defending Children," "Keep Thou My Child," and "Praying for Your Children," as well as links to essential Christian Science articles.

  • In addition to the spiritual foundation, you'll find practical guidance on goal-setting for the year, with suggested handouts to help you define your objectives. Consider what you want your children to learn and what you hope they will remember most.

2 - "Teaching to Nonreaders & Idea Box"

  • Discover how children of all ages, including those who cannot yet read, learn best. Explore tips and tricks to help them remember ideas and facts, and stay engaged and excited about learning the Bible.

  • You’ll be amazed at how much young children can retain and understand. I’ll help you set realistic expectations by presenting challenging concepts in ways that are accessible and age-appropriate.

  • Additionally, I provide a sample lesson plan, outline what to expect, and share a video of my grandson explaining what he learned in Sunday School last year, when he was just 5 years old.

  • Finally, I give you 20 "Activities" to start brainstorming your "Idea Box" that you can modify and customize as you see fit. These include how to teach "Timelines," "Synonym Focus," the "Castle" Game," the "Play the Seed" Game, how to teach "Illusions," "Books of the Bible," and introduction to Bible Characters and Stories. Giving children of this age a foundation of the stories and why they are important for us to know is fundamental to this age group.

3 - "Teaching Grades 1-8"

  • We are excited to equip you with the tools and knowledge needed to effectively teach the Bible to children in Grades 1-8.

  • This age group has a natural curiosity and hunger for learning. Younger children often enjoy absorbing facts and historical details, while older students are ready for deeper concepts, such as exploring the "Spiritual Qualities of Noah." Throughout all age groups, it’s important to balance historical context with spiritual insights, helping them gain a broader understanding of the Bible.

  • In this module I give you a sample lesson plan that is adaptable to how you would like to teach.

  • Additionally, I also give you about 12 Ideas that I have also used when teaching this age group which include ideas for the "Bell Ringer," discussion questions, journaling and gratitude jar, timelines & ideas on how to enhance Bible history.

4 - "Teaching Grades 9-12 +"

  • Many people feel intimidated when teaching teenagers, largely due to the complex issues they face today. It’s crucial with this age group to build on the historical context and ideas they've learned as younger children, and to develop their critical thinking skills so they can relate these stories to their own lives. We focus on discussions about morality and ethics, exploring what it means to be a "good" person and a "child of God." Our worksheets and charts delve into how to think critically about these concepts and what the Bible says about them.

  • For teenagers and young adults who are ready, I have previously covered topics such as how to give yourself a Christian Science Treatment, what to expect from going through Class, and how to align Mary Baker Eddy's teachings with the Bible.

  • In this module, I provide numerous worksheets designed to facilitate meaningful conversations with young people.

5 - Resources for Grades 1-12 +

  • I am thrilled to be able to finally share everything that is include in this special module.

  • There are over 30+ charts & worksheets that I have collected over the many years experimenting with how to teach children (at any age) "thinking" concepts like "Image/Genesis 1:2," Mrs. Eddy's "Mental Courtroom," the "Road Map of Life," & understanding "The Tabernacle."

  • All of these are my personal treasure trove of mental exercises that I have created and used either for my own personal use or to share with others.

  • Most of these concepts are easily adaptable to children that can read and write (Grades 1-12 plus college)

  • I consider it my personal legacy where I give you the PDS for download as well as a short explanation of how I would use it.

Library for All Ages (1-12)

  • This module is a literally a library of the basic 101 foundational charts, maps, timelines and Bible Characters that I have used over and over to introduce concepts or historical facts to children Grades 1-12 (& College.

  • "The Geography of the Holy Land Presentation"  lays out the physcial characteristics of the Holy Land (Palestine) that is an absolutle "must" for all teachers to know and understand. I also introduce the spiritual qualities of the land as well and what they represent.

  • "The 10 Commandments Presentation"  is another "go-to" talk for all teachers because this is the "Law," the foundation of morality and ethical behavior and thinking. These concepts can be applied to any age.

  • Bible Characters A-Z - is a Library of about 40 Bible Characters that I have cultivated information on, activities, worksheets, images & questions/quizzes over the many decades that use over and over for all ages.

  • Bible History 101 — Introductory concepts like "Disciples" (learning them, who they are and also the spiritual idea of "Discipleship"), Gospel Chart, Kings of Judah and understanding Capernaum and why it's so important to Jesus' life & ministry, are just a few of the 101 concepts that I use over and over again to teach children.

  • Bible Maps 101 — Again the basic maps that are foundational to the main stories in the Bible to support characters and prompt discussions about the geography of the Holy Land area.

  • Bible Timelines 101 — Foundational timelines that help put in perspective the linear plotlines of the Bible, the character's stories or just an important time in the Bible that we need to learn and talk about (aka. "Babylonian Captivity").

  • FLASHCARDS — Flashcards have always been a huge part of my teaching style because they are easy to make, easy to teach with, kids of all ages need to learn and memorize certain facts about the Bible etc. They are also important tools and useful for memory and "Bell Ringers" (to pull out when you need a couple minutes before class is over etc).

"I was working on my Sunday School lesson last night and saw your email.  What a wonderful program you have put together!  I purchased it, and it appeared on my screen right away.  I have a student who is so excited to be learning the books of the Bible in order.  I found your “Books of the Bible Descriptions” and am so grateful to have this teaching tool. It is perfect to serve as a content guide and timeline for events and characters.  I like the clear and concise way it gives an overview of each chapter. I printed it out immediately and it will help me in getting a better grasp of the basics of each chapter, as well as a directory to help look up answers to questions about each Book as we move forward.

Thank You so much for your dedication to our Sunday School students, teachers, children and grandchildren, as well as for your enormous love of the Bible and your willingness to share your knowledge. We will enjoy exploring the Bible with you!"

We provide worksheets, prompts, and charts to address the tough questions this age group faces and to help them develop the skills to think critically and defend themselves mentally.
          * included for only the "Grades 1-8" & "All Age Bundle" courses

  • Library for All Ages:  Massive library that includes "The Geography of the Holy Land Presentation," "The 10 Commandments Presentation," Bible Characters A-Z (about 40 characters), Bible History 101, Bible Maps 101, Bible Timelines 101 & Flashcards.

  • Resources for Grades 1-12: A collection of Kathy’s personal teaching tools, including charts, worksheets, handouts, and diagrams, designed to help children develop critical thinking skills around Biblical concepts. Topics include "The Mental Courtroom," "The Tabernacle," and "Loving Others," among many others. These resources are ideal for children over the age of 7 who can read and write, as many exercises encourage self-reflection and written responses.
          * included for all except the "PreK-K" course

  • 24/7 access (once modules are published)

  • Lifetime access

Kathy Merrill

My name is Kathy Christian Merrill and I am a graduate of Principia College with a degree in sociology and elementary education. I have a master’s degree in education from Arizona State University. I have taught various grade levels (K-6th grade) for over 26 years - the last 13 out of the 26 at Principia Lower School in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1998, I retired to work as the Campus Promotions Director at Principia College for two years, and then from 2000-2010 as a Resident Counselor in a dorm at the College.

Around 2015, I was rehired by The Principia School as a Bible Educator and enjoyed this position for two years, helping to “encourage deeper Bible study with adults and to help parents work with their children on teaching the Scriptures to them at home.” This is when I started my blog, www.csbibleinsights.com with the intent to share ideas about Bible study to anyone who was interested.

The blog evolved into helping adults and kids dive deeper into the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson where I share research and ideas on the stories and lessons each week.

Now, with the help of my daughter, I am supported by my blog with the continued focus on sharing deeper insights on the Christian Science Weekly Lesson Sermon but also to share ideas to help encourage a deeper individual Bible study.

Throughout my extensive teaching experience and as a passionate Bible educator, the one thing I have loved the most is sharing my love for the Bible and connecting it to Mrs. Eddy's writings. Over the past 40 years, I have given over 600 Bible workshops nationwide for Principia Clubs, Principia Summer Session courses, individual Christian Science churches, schools, and nursing homes. I feel very blessed to have unique opportunities to share my love for the Bible, and my hope is that you learn to love the Bible as much as I do.

With this unique format in mind, the course also is constantly being updated with more content and ideas throughout this next year. If purchased, all participants will receive a weekly or bi-weekly email that communicates the updated content to each age group.
